The latest Nintendo Switch eShop sale features Bandai Namco and its huge library of great anime games and more. A katamari's never looked so flat as the one found in the closing credits mini-game.
Trip out on the psychedelic "Yellow Submarine" inspired opening to Katamari Damacy. You wouldn't believe the things you'll pick up with a Katamari ball. Ryan Davis explains why Katamari Damacy's quirkiness makes it one of the sleepers of the year. It's just as weird as it sounds, with eccentric characters, colorful levels, and an absolutely ridiculous story.
However, Beautiful Katamari offers one of the most unique and relaxing gameplay experiences of all time, encouraging players to sit back and roll to their heart's content. Complete with a lengthy solo campaign, local and multiplayer options, and crisp HD visuals, Beautiful Katamari is a defining entry in this truly odd yet addictive series. Beautiful Katamari, like the rest of the Katamari franchise, offers a silly and ridiculous story that serves as a foundation for the weird, ball-rolling gameplay.
At the start of the game, the King of All Cosmos, along with the Queen and the Prince, are enjoying some fun in the sun on a family vacation. While playing a round of tennis, the King of All Cosmos accidentally hits the ball so hard that it tears through the fabric of space. This creates a massive black hole, sucking up all of the stars and planets in the universe. With the fate of the universe resting in his hands, the Prince gets to rolling.
Much like other games in the Katamari series, including Katamari Forever and Katamari Damacy, Beautiful Katamari is a laid-back but occasionally hectic experience. Using both analog sticks, players roll a ball through various environments, including casinos, castles, amusement parks, and more.
There are tons of everyday objects scattered around the level, which stick to your ball when you roll over them. As you continue to roll over everything in sight, your ball will expand in size, allowing you to pick up larger objects. Levels are timed and your performance is graded at the end, unlocking new modes if you are successful.
In addition to the standard single-player mode, you can play with your friends either locally or online, competing or cooperating in a variety of modes. One of the defining features of Beautiful Katamari are the level objectives, which require you to roll up specific items while forming your katamari.
For example, in the forest level, players are encouraged to focus on rolling up bushes, flowers, and other plants. In the amusement park stage, you'll have to collect hot and spicy objects in order to keep your katamari at the optimal temperature. These objectives are a bit more specific than previous Katamari games, offering a nice change of pace.
